Earlier, a badly infected tooth, or one that just had significant decay, was doomed to be extracted. Today, the majority of these teeth can be salvaged by the Root Canal Specialist, The Endodonist like Dr. NIKHIL GIRDHAR.
An extraction is truly the last resort!
Some indications of the need for root canal treatment may be:
  • Spontaneous pain or throbbing while biting
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold foods
  • Severe decay or an injury that creates an abscess (infection) in the bone

  • Root Canal Treatment consists of:
The removal of the infected or irritated nerve tissue that lies within the root of the tooth. It is this infected pulp tissue that causes an eventual abscess.
  •  The number of visits necessary to complete your root canal will depend upon several factors including the number of nerves in the tooth, the infected state of the nerve, and the complexity of the procedure.
This is done in order to prevent possible future infection.
If treated early, root canal therapy need not be uncomfortable.
  • Root Canal Treatment ( RCT)

"Root Canal is a dental procedure to save a severely damaged tooth that would otherwise require to be removed "

For your convenience we have both methods:-
Traditional Root canal treatment (Requires 3-4 dental office visits)
Single Visit Root Canal Treatment (Requires 1 visit at dental office)

Saving a tooth by Traditional Root canal Treatment (RCT)

At Sparkle we place high emphasis on saving a tooth rather than removing.Root canal treatment is only alternative for saving a severely decayed tooth. In Root canal dentist will remove all the vital portion inside the tooth(Pulp)that carries the blood vessels and nerves and is severely infected. Infection of tooth pulp can occur in lot of circumstances to list some are- prolonged decay(Tooth Caries) that are left unattended, Fractured tooth surfaces and tooth fillings that are unattended for some time, Trauma can cause immidiate death of vital pulp and infection. etc. This kind of pulp infection causes accumulation of pus at the tip of tooth roots inside the jaw bone, and severe pain and swelling not only in the tooth but also the surrounding areas. In root canal treatment tooth is drilled, infected pulp is removed completely and the root canals are shaped and disinfected, undrlying pus is drained and then the root canals are filled with special material (Guttapercha) to acomodate the root canals above which the tooth is restored with a cement filling. Traditional root canal procedure requires 3-4 visits to a dentists office. First visit the acess is made and pulp is removed to facilitate the pus drainage. Second visit root canals are filed and shaped and disinfected with medicines. Third visit requires same dhaping and disinfection of root canals, if infection still persist. Fourth visit the shaped and disinfected root canals are filled with Guttapercha and root canals are sealed and tooth is restored with dental cements. If capping is recomended capping is done to prevent further tooth destruction.

Single visit Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

With a increasing pace of life and difficulty to manage time to make frequent visits to a dentists office, endodontics had gone a step further and presented the option for Single visit root canal treatments for those who need treatment but have time constraints. Single visit root canal treatments can be done with same results, only the criteria is case selection. Your dentist will advice after check-up and diagnosis, whether you fit for single visit root canal treatment. Single visit Root canal Treatment takes about 1 and 1/2 Hours at Sparkle Dental gurgaon.

  • With the use of local anesthetics, the entire procedure can be totally painless.

  • The first step in a root canal is to obtain access to the nerve. This is accomplished by establishing a small access opening in the top of the tooth. It will be done under a local anesthetic.
  • The length of the root canal is determined and the infected pulp is removed. At the same visit, the canal where the nerve is located will be reshaped and prepared
to accept a special root canal filling material.

The final step in your root canal will be the
sealing of the root canal with a sterile, plastic
     material called gutta percha.
